The Quebec Soft Drink Industry

Every year, more than one billion non-refillable soft drink containers are sold in Quebec.

Thanks to the consignation system and their efforts, the bottlers achieve a recovery rate of 70% of the non-refillable containers that they sell in our province.

In 2006, the actual recovery was of 660 million aluminium cans, 220 million plastic bottles and 6 million glass bottles for an approximate total 0f 21 260 metric tons.

21 260 metric tons is the equivalent of 52 Boeing 747 jet airplanes or 5080 elephants that will not have been forwarded towards the burial sites.

In 2006, the bottlers, through B.G.E., have also invested nearly 3 million dollars in recovery infrastructure improvement programs and in information, awareness and education programs.
