Any individual or organization that performs container recovery activities parallel to the regular recovery network such as sorting centers for curbside recycling, or charitable organizations, are considered “Artisans” for the purpose of the Agreement. These authorized individuals or organizations may have their containers recycled through conditioners or recyclers certified by Recyc-Quebec and are not required to be party to the Agreement. However, they must obtain an authorization number as an Artisan from BGE before each delivery to a certified conditioner or recycler.

In order to be considered an Artisan and obtain an authorization number, a person or organization must recover a sufficient volume of containers for BGE to determine that it is in the best interest of the deposit system to have this person or organization bring their containers directly to a conditioner or recycler instead of returning them to a retail outlet.
